My name is Luiza, and I am an Audiology Assistant Practitioner with NHS experience. I am trained in anatomy and physiology of the ear, otoscopy, and safe ear wax removal methods: microsuction, irrigation and manual removal. I am insured, DBS checked and compliant with all health and safety procedures.
I provide the ear wax removal service for adults in Teddington, Hampton Wick, Twickenham, Hampton Hill, etc.
An appointment would start with a short health questionnaire, followed by otoscopy examination, signed consent, and microsuction or irrigation ear wax removal.
I would show you video otoscopy images of your ear canals before and after the procedure.
At the end of the appointment aftercare instructions will be given.
Before having your ears professionally cleared it is important to soften the ear wax to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. It is recommended to apply a few drops of olive oil once or twice a day, ideally for a week before the procedure.
Either pharmaceutical grade olive oil drops or a spray (e.g. Earol) are perfect for this. Your ears may feel temporarily more blocked after using olive oil, this is because the wax soaks up the oil. That feeling will go away after ear wax removal.
It is important to mention, especially for patients who have never had their ear wax removed, that they need to stay relatively still during the procedure as sudden movements could result in ear damage.
Everything will be fully explained in detail before the ear wax removal starts.
To summarise - the microsution and irrigation ear wax removal methods are effective, painless and generally quick procedures, and the only preparation needed is olive oil drops/spray.
**Please note the contraindications for the ear wax removal service include: any middle ear infections within 90 days, any past operations in or around ears, suspected perforated eardrum, any fluid or discharge from ears.
In case of any of the above the service cannot be provided**
