Ear wax is an important substance which keeps our ears healthy by lubricating the ear canal and preventing infection. However, sometimes we can over produce it, which can lead to excess wax or even ear wax impaction.
The symptoms can include: itchy ears, fullness, pain, loss of hearing, vertigo (feeling dizzy), tinnitus (ringing/buzzing in your ears), etc.
Microsuction is a very effective method of ear wax removal. It uses a vacuum to remove any excess wax safely and gently from blocked ears by using a single use probe connected to a suction machine. This is done while viewing through a magnifying head loupe to get a clear view of the ear canal during the procedure.
Irrigation is a great method which is mainly used when ear wax is quite dry and/or located very deep in an ear canal. The machine for irrigation, with single use probes, uses a pulsating low pressure stream of warm water which gently flushes any debris. Irrigation is NOT the old school syringing.
